what's happening at pinecrest elementary

Dear PineCrest Families,

I want to start by saying how much I appreciate the families that have stayed patient with us as we have navigated another challenging school year. There are SO many more layers to our jobs now due to COVID. The rules constantly change and our district is working hard to keep up. We have some big changes due to the new recommendations from the CDC and DOH. Please read all communications that come from the district and school to stay up to date.

Vaccinations &Test to Stay - I know it has been frustrating for families when they get a "close contact" call and their child has to miss school. The good news is that if your child is vaccinated and they are a close contact at school or on the bus, they can continue coming to school as normal and just monitor their symptoms! Our district will be sending out information regarding three booster clinics for staff, students, and family members. So, be looking for that information on our website and through district communications! In addition, if a child has not been vaccinated, and is a close contact either in or out of school, they can now get tested at school! The school will contact you if your child is considered a close contact. If your child was in close contact with a positive case outside of school, please contact our office to be put on a list for testing.

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) -All students in 1st grade will be taking this test during the window of January 19th - February 18th. Our district uses this test in order to identify and determine placement in the Central Kitsap Highly Capable Program. If you do not wish to have your child tested, please let your child's teacher know and we will send you an opt-out form. Please click on this link for more information.

Ready for K? -Birth to Age 5: Prepare your child for school success with these FREE online workshops that will show you how! Open to all Central Kitsap School District families and caregivers. You may attend at your convenience between January 13th - February 24th. You will receive free materials and toys! Register now using this link.
